Musée Lambinet: an immersive journey into history through an innovative sound trail
26 December 2024
In collaboration with Sycomore, the Musée Lambinet now offers an immersive audio-guided tour, enriched with binaural audio content, that recreates the atmosphere of Versailles on the eve of the French Revolution.
A place steeped in history: the Hôtel Lambinet
A former bourgeois residence converted into a museum, the Hôtel Lambinet bears witness to French elegance and the art of living. Located in the centre of Versailles, this 18th-century building houses an eclectic collection of artworks, furniture and historical objects linked to local history, from the 18th to the early 20th century.
The collections place particular emphasis on the 18th century, an era marked by the rise of the bourgeoisie, the artistic golden age of Versailles and the upheavals of the French Revolution. The museum also tells the story of its collections, notably through the major donations that have enriched its treasures.
An enriching audio-guided tour
With nearly two hours of audio-guided content, the Musée Lambinet invites visitors to discover the history of the Hôtel Lambinet and the stories behind 58 works and objects on display. Each commentary comes with "learn more" sections that delve into the details of creative techniques, historical anecdotes and the artists' careers.
One of the highlights of the tour is its exploration of the 18th century, shedding light on the art of living of the period and the role of Versailles in the events of the French Revolution. The museum offers a unique perspective on this era, providing a better understanding of the cultural and political context that shaped French society.
A unique binaural sound immersion
At the heart of this tour, the Musée Lambinet and Sycomore have devised an immersive binaural audio experience, a technology that spatializes sound in 360° and recreates a lifelike atmosphere.
In five of the museum's emblematic rooms, the sound trail plunges visitors into a key moment in history: the daily life of a bourgeois family on the eve of the French Revolution. Through a captivating dialogue between a mother and her son, they discover the social concerns, domestic customs and growing political tensions of the time. Immersive sound effects — footsteps, whispers, the crackling of a fire — heighten the sensation of travelling back in time.
An accessible and enriching experience
With this innovative tour, the Musée Lambinet and Sycomore are modernizing the museum experience by making it more interactive and accessible. Designed for all audiences, it appeals to art and history enthusiasts as well as curious visitors looking for an immersive experience:
1. A dive into the 18th century: daily life and the political intrigues of the French Revolution. 2. Sensory immersion: the atmosphere of a bourgeois home brought to life through realistic, captivating audio content. 3. Greater accessibility: an experience for everyone, from history lovers to occasional visitors. 4. Technological innovation: binaural audio narration that enriches every detail of the visit.
A must-see visit in Versailles
With this new immersive tour, the Musée Lambinet and Sycomore push the boundaries of the traditional museum experience and invite visitors to relive a key moment in French history, in the heart of the city of Versailles. A unique adventure combining culture, emotion and innovation.
