The Musée Granet in Aix-en-Provence modernises its visit tools for groups and individual visitors
7 November 2024
The Musée Granet, one of the region's leading art museums, undertook a complete overhaul of its visit-support tools in 2023, in order to offer its audiences a higher-quality experience.
An emblematic venue in the heart of Provence
Founded in 1838 and housed in a former priory in Aix-en-Provence, the Musée Granet holds a rich and varied collection ranging from classical painting to contemporary art, with works by renowned masters such as Paul Cézanne, Rembrandt, Giacometti and Picasso. Known for its high-quality permanent and temporary exhibitions, it attracts art lovers from all backgrounds.
New Vox VDR tour guide systems: an optimised experience for groups
In 2023, the museum began modernising its equipment by acquiring 200 Vox VDR tour guide systems for groups with a lecturer. These devices allow visitors to follow the guide's explanations, even in cramped spaces. The museum has also optimised the management of the units with a mobile charging trolley capable of storing and simultaneously recharging 180 devices — an innovation that maximises efficiency and the use of the museum's limited space.
The introduction of the A-Guide audio guide in 2024
In 2024, the Musée Granet took a new step by introducing the A-Guide, a latest-generation audio guide developed by Sycomore. This device offers an interactive, personalised visit experience, allowing visitors to explore the collections and exhibitions at their own pace: the major works of Paul Cézanne, Aix-en-Provence's emblematic artist, as well as contemporary art pieces. Temporary exhibitions also benefit from this new technology.
With its configurable blue and yellow buttons, the A-Guide offers a multiple-choice visit in which visitors select the sections of the museum they wish to explore in greater depth. The audio guides thus deliver in-depth content to a wide range of audiences:
- Art lovers: detailed explanations of the works, with historical and technical analyses.
- Families and children: playful trails for younger visitors (from age 6), in French and English.
- International visitors: a trail available in French, English, German, Italian, Spanish and Japanese.
A content management system for greater autonomy
The A-Guide is equipped with a CMS (Content Management System) that allows the museum to update its audio-guided trails independently and quickly. This flexibility makes it possible to adjust content as new exhibitions or temporary events come along, for an ever-enriching experience.
An audio-guided experience for all audiences
Equipping a museum with audio guides and tour guide systems offers a twofold benefit. For groups, the Vox VDR systems ensure visitors can follow the guide's explanations smoothly, even in crowded spaces. For individual visitors, the A-Guide makes every exploration more personalised and accessible, including for families and foreign visitors. By integrating these technologies, the Musée Granet facilitates the transmission of knowledge and creates a seamless interaction between visitors and its artistic treasures.
