Sycomore and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Draguignan: an alliance for cultural immersion
13 February 2025
To enrich its visitors' experience, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Draguignan called on Sycomore, an expert in audio tour production: together, they developed four distinct tours, each available in two versions — one for adults and one for children.
A museum at the heart of the region's cultural life
Located in the heart of the town, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Draguignan is an essential fixture in the region's cultural landscape. Known for its high-quality temporary exhibitions, it makes a point of showcasing varied themes and offering interpretation suited to all audiences. Its distinctive feature lies in its dynamic approach: rather than displaying a permanent collection, it regularly renews its offering by inviting specialists to design immersive, interactive exhibitions.
Audio tours designed for every audience
One of the major challenges in designing audio tours is adapting the content to the audience's age and expectations. Sycomore rose to this challenge by playing with narration and sound staging.
- "Lotharingia: Treasures of the Vanished Kingdom": adults are taken on a detailed historical journey through the legacy of Charlemagne, with in-depth explanations of the birth and disappearance of Lotharingia. Children are guided by a clumsy young magician who transforms into different animals using a magic spell, each transformation accompanied by a new voice and playful sound effects.
- "Challenges and Sports: An Encounter Between Antiquity and Today": the adult version analyses depictions of sport through the ages, from ancient statues to modern practices. For younger visitors, a present-day sports journalist interviews ancient athletes in a game of interviews that plays on the contrast between eras.
- "The Silk Road: A Thousand-Year Epic": adults dive into a historical account of the commercial and cultural exchanges between East and West, highlighting recent archaeological discoveries. Children follow the adventures of an old Sogdian sage sharing his exploits with a curious youngster, against a soundscape where caravans can be heard advancing through the desert.
- "Gardens and Palaces of the East: Between Poetry and Symbolism": adults explore the deeper meaning of gardens in Eastern art through excerpts of Persian poetry read in the original language. For children, a proud peacock serves as guide, interacting with the objects on display in a tour shaped like an amusing dialogue.
An enriched cultural experience
Thanks to this collaboration, every visit becomes a unique adventure where history comes to life. This approach captures the attention of young audiences while offering adults rich, detailed content. Visitors young and old leave with a deeper understanding of the works and an unforgettable experience.
Conclusion
The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Draguignan and Sycomore have created original experiences, turning every visit into a genuine journey through time. The interactive audio guides make it possible to adapt content to the audience's expectations and strengthen the transmission of knowledge. Enriching exhibitions through sound and storytelling: that is the goal achieved together, to the great delight of visitors of all ages.
