In collaboration with the local tourist office, Sycomore Vox has transformed the rich history of the church of La Chapelle d'Abondance into a captivating audio tour, allowing visitors to delve into the past while exploring the architectural and spiritual aspects of this monument.

A village in the heart of the Alps

Nestled at the foot of the Cornettes de Bise and the Mont de Grange, La Chapelle d'Abondance is a picturesque village in Haute-Savoie, on the Swiss border. One of the six communes of the Abondance valley, between Lake Geneva and the Mont Blanc massif, the village is surrounded by breathtaking scenery that serves as a backdrop to the church, a monument whose history is as rich as the setting around it.

The history of the church

The current church dates from the 17th century, a period marked by the return of Catholic worship to the valley after decades of religious instability caused by the emergence of Protestantism. Under the impetus of the Bishop of Geneva, Francis de Sales, the church was restored and enlarged to become the spiritual centre it is today. Its three-bulb spire, added in the early 19th century, bears witness to the region's Savoyard history and has become an emblematic architectural symbol of the building.

An audio trail in seven stages

The tourist office wanted to enrich the visitor experience by creating an audio tour of the church, covering both its interior and exterior spaces. Sycomore Vox worked on adapting and rewriting the texts provided for the spoken word, tailoring them to the audio format while preserving the historical and cultural richness of the information. The production was structured around seven key stages:

A multilingual experience and captivating narration

The audio guides were produced in two languages, French and English, with texts carefully adapted to ensure fluency and clarity while preserving the historical and cultural nuances of each stage. Sycomore Vox chose voices that inform and captivate: anecdotes and vivid descriptions transport listeners through time and make the history of the church and the village tangible and engaging. A fine example of how digital interpretation can showcase heritage while respecting local history and culture.
